Annabel Steadman (née Church) was a member of Marlowe House from 2005 to 2010, and went on to study Spanish, Russian and Law at Selwyn College, Cambridge. After leaving her career in law, she undertook a Masters in Creative Writing at Cambridge University, achieving a Distinction in 2019. In September 2020, Annabel secured what is believed to be the world's largest ever book advance for a debut children's author. SKANDAR AND THE UNICORN THIEF, which is the first book in her fantasy adventure series aimed at children aged 9+, was bought by Simon & Schuster in a multi-publisher auction, and Sony Pictures have also acquired the film rights to bring her magical world – where unicorns are real and deadly – to the big screen.
